Mariah O’Looney, Tatiana and Simran from MM Structural Engineering attended the Engineers Australia – Engineering your Future event at the Powerhouse Museum MAAS. This event is to promote STEM and our future female engineers by mentoring and showing how interesting a career in engineering can be. The students were guided (and guided us!) on the modelling of dams and turbines among other renewable energy sources where engineers are leaders on carbon reduction.

Bondi Pavilion opens https://mmstructuralartistry.com/2022/12/bondi-pavilion-opens/ Wed, 28 Dec 2022 03:28:00 +0000 https://mmstructuralartistry.com/?p=2097 We got a first look, tour of the completed works at Bondi Pavilion with Waverley Council, Buildcorp and TZG Architects. This project was so challenging, interesting and politically sensitive and we have worked on it since 2015. Great to see everyone hard work come to this finale.

Marrickville Town Hall turns 99 years old this month. We recently had the privilege of doing a full structural measure up, design analysis check and load capacity review of the steel truss roof on this old dame. An interesting moment in the history of steel construction circa 1922. Upon close inspection you can pick that the connections are a mix of hot rivets installed in the workshop or on ground, with steel bolts then placed to finalise the joint upon install. Great to work with Inner West Council on this heritage structure.

This year we not only took out 1st place in the bicycle NSW Biketober challenge but the whole event across all participants saved 24,130 kg in CO2. Well done to all. A good start, more to do.

Tommy from our office was featured on the Biketober website here and we enjoyed a celebratory ride around the Bay run to mark the end of another great October promoting cycling to work! We currently have over 50% of staff commuting via bike every day and are very proud of this.

A quiet day

As we had not held any ‘real world’ office social event in over 6 months we thought it was about time we did! Zoom quarantini drinks were fun and even the online trivia quiz night we did was great but we decided to hold a ‘Formal Friday’ evening drinks and games night as our office is well socially distanced. The world renowned “Pasta Tower challenge” was held. How high can you go in 15 minutes? Some didn’t hold up so well its true (this in no way reflects on what we do professionally).

We had all of our brainiacs gathered onto one team to compete at the annual Association of Consulting Structural Engineers – Table Quiz. We won!

A close nail biter down to the last “Buzzer Round” and in the end we sealed the deal by correctly answering:

“In the Navy what does PO stand for?”

Not a bad win for a firm of 20, up against the much larger firms of hundreds of engineers. Thanks for a great night as always ACSE!
